Kate Moodley is an accomplished business woman with a number of academic qualifications which include a Masters in Law. She began her career in legal but quickly moved into the financial services industry and insurance, in particular.
Kate has gone from strength to strength, starting as a Candidate Attorney with Deneys Reitz and she became a Legal Advisor with Old Mutual in 2003. In 2005, she moved onto Momentum as a Business Development Manager.
Her career grew markedly in Momentum as she established herself first as a Regional Manager and then as a General Manager (Executive Management). In 2010, she took the courageous step of becoming a Franchise Director at Discovery – essentially running her own business under the Discovery umbrella.
Professionally, Kate has been recognized as an emerging leader and businesswoman. In 2014, she was nominated for Africa’s Most Influential Women and in 2013, she won the Young Achiever Award for South Africa. In 2012, she was selected at the Top 200 South Africans by the Mail & Guardian. Kate was also selected as one of the 20 on the Power List by Woman and Home in 2012. She won the Rising Star Award for the finance category and in 2011, she won Top Business Woman of the Year and Top Woman Executive for South Africa.
Kate has been selected as a spokes-person and chair of the African Women’s International Conference. She has been awarded CEO’s SA’s Most Influential Woman in Business and Government for Insurance too. Kate has also been selected as ‘FNA’s’ Women Who Are Making a Difference. Throughout her career, she has sought to establish a consistent and growing personal brand.
She has written numerous articles for magazines such as Oprah, Personal Finance, CEO, M-Magazine, Momentarily, Cosmo, Women & Home and Entrepreneur etc. She has just completed her first book, ‘I Inc.’.
In her book, ‘I Inc.: Be the CEO of your Brand’, Kate explores the lessons that she has learnt in her career. About Kate Moodley:
Kate grew up in Klerksdorp in the North West Province: “I was very nerdy! I was a true academic and I was serious about school and doing well” she says. Kate grew up in a home which was fairly strict with an upbringing that has always been centred around working hard and ‘doing your best’: “I come from a home of entrepreneurs, so I have always been exposed to the business side from a very young age, which has taught me some amazing life lessons”.
Writing her book opened the platform to public speaking for Kate: “It created a great opportunity to share my thoughts to a live audience as opposed to just a reader. During this journey, I have started loving being a professional speaker as it allowed me to share my thoughts and my own journey” she says.
With that being said, professional speaking grants Kate the opportunity to connect with so many individuals. After every talk, she feels truly fulfilled as she believes that she might have shared something valuable to someone.
How has Kate changed since she first started speaking?
“I have become a lot more confident and it is a skill that I had to master over time”
In her own words, Kate is a “workaholic” – she always has been and she cannot see it changing because she absolutely loves what she does: “I am a perfectionist, so it has to be 100 percent my best!”
Kate believes that her dedication and focus as contributed to her success. Dedication, hard work and networking are also factors in her formula for success.

Her celebrity crush is Gabriel Macht (Harvey Specter from ‘Suits’).
If not for her professional speaking career, she would be a fashion designer.
Her dislikes: lazy and dishonest people.
When she has spare time, she loves to travel and to see different parts of the world.
She volunteers a lot of her time to mentorship programs for university students and new start up business owners.
