With a burning passion for the subject matter, Simon's talks are packed with the latest breakthroughs -
currently including augmented reality, mind-control devices, the internet of things and intelligence layering.
Instead of just slides Simon fills projector screens with running applications, browsers windows and videos. A
menagerie of phones, tablet computers and other gadgets are worked into his talks as he simplifies subjects
with live demonstrations of what's possible.
During time not spent on the stage Simon is technology editor at Finweek Magazine and host of the weekly
technology radio show (tech)5 on 5FM. He is also a strategic consultant.
In the past Simon has contributed to many technology and lifestyle publications and wrote a chapter on Mark
Shuttleworth for the book South Africa's Greatest Entrepreneurs. He is often asked to provide comment
relating to business and technology on television and radio shows. Simon is also currently consulting to ITWeb
as Content Director for Digital Life Show 2011.
In a previous life Simon worked as a communications consultant and writer with clients including Google,
Microsoft, Oracle, The Shuttleworth Foundation and other technology vendors. And before that he worked in
the entertainment industry where his exploits included touring Europe with musicians and MCing at large
music festivals back home.
Now much of his time is spent travelling and meeting with thought leaders in the tech industry. In recent
months he has met with IBM CEO Sam Palmisano, Nokia CEO Stephen Elop, joint-CEO of Research In
Motion (BlackBerry) Jim Balsillie, and many more, gathering the latest insights for his talks, shows and articles.
Instead of delivering bland, generic talks, Simon tailors his presentations to the audience or event he is speaking at to ensure that the content is relevant and useful.
Regular topics include cutting edge technologies and the trends they represent for business, dispelling misconceptions surrounding Web 2.0 and examples of how to effectively integrate online communications. Simon has a knack for taking complex divergent technology trends and jargon and demystifying them - but then he is just as comfortable in front of crowds of nerds who want a more technical understanding of the subject matter.
Simon recently hosted the Black Berry Innovation Forum, GIBS Technology Forum, panel discussions at Tech4Africa and the launch of the LG Optimus One smartphone. He has presented talks to many private clients in industries ranging from personal finance to agriculture.
