Louise Marsland – Journalist Consumer Trends will look at the key trends in consumer insight both locally, in Africa and globally that are currently influencing brands; as well as key trends shaping society and business for 2020. Louise is now available through Speakers Inc.

Louise is currently Publishing Editor of her own consumer insight and trends website, a Contributing Editor to Fast Company South Africa, a specialist columnist for Bizcommunity.com, MarkLives.com and Screen Africa magazine; as well as a consultant in communications and content curation. She also edited The New Age newspaper’s Media & Marketing Page until 2014.

She has been a journalist and editor for 28 years, beginning her career in daily newspapers in the turbulent 1980s, working for The Citizen, The Star, The Saturday Star and Weekend Star for her first decade in media, specialising in local government.

Her career highlights included interviewing Nelson Mandela on the eve of the successful first democratic elections, April 1994, the day before he was officially announced as the next President of South Africa; as well as contributing a chapter to Patrick Laurence’s book ‘Death Squads: Apartheid’s Secret Weapon’ (Penguin, 1990); and being published in ‘The Bedside Star’ (1991) and ‘The Bedside Star Again’ (1992), both edited by James Clarke.

Louise left newspapers in 1995, moving into magazine publishing and specialising as a business-to-business editor in the FMCG and advertising, media and marketing communications industry, winning multiple awards for the publications she was editor of over the last two decades: AdVantage, Marketing Mix, Progressive Retailing, Footsteps and Executive Business Brief.

She also specialised in digital publishing as editor of Bizcommunity.com, Fastmoving.co.za and most recently, her own consumer insight and trends website. Follow Louise on Twitter.
